Our adoption process

Our Mission

At Sugar Coat Yorkies, our mission is to provide high-quality pets for families, while promoting responsible pet ownership and animal welfare. We believe bringing a puppy home should feel exciting, comfortable, and well supported. Our process is designed to ensure each puppy is placed in a loving, committed forever home while making the experience enjoyable for our families.

Puppy Availability

We are a small, in-home breeder, and each litter is intentionally planned with care, health, and temperament in mind. Because of this, our puppies are limited and availability is never guaranteed. We believe in quality over quantity and giving each puppy the time, attention, and love they deserve. We invite interested families to join our waitlist to stay updated on future litters, planned pairings, and availability. Being on our waitlist allows us to connect with families who share our values and are patiently waiting for the right puppy, at the right time.

Reserving a puppy

Reserving a puppy with Sugarcoat Yorkies begins with open communication. We encourage families to reach out, ask questions, and share a little about their home and what they’re looking for in a Yorkie. When puppies are available, we’ll discuss current or upcoming litters and help determine if a particular puppy is a good fit for your family.

Once a puppy is chosen, a $500 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your baby. This deposit secures your puppy and allows us to continue providing individualized care while they grow. After reservation, families can expect weekly updates, including photos, videos, and milestones so you can watch your puppy develop during their time with us.

All adoptions include a contract that outlines important health and care information. Puppies will go home with age-appropriate vaccinations, routine dewormings, and a one-year health guarantee against congenital defects. To maintain the health guarantee, new owners are required to have their puppy examined by their veterinarian and receive health clearance within 72 hours of placement.

If circumstances change and you are unable to move forward with your reserved puppy, we appreciate early communication. In most cases, deposits may be transferred to a future puppy, when available. Puppies are typically ready to go home after 8 weeks of age, though smaller puppies may remain with us longer to ensure they are strong, healthy, and fully ready for their transition.

Our goal is to make the reservation process thoughtful, supportive, and centered around the well-being of both our puppies and their future families.

Our Health Testing

The health of our dogs is a top priority. All of our parent dogs are DNA and genetic tested through Embark, one of the most widely used canine genetic testing platforms. This testing helps us better understand genetic health risks, coat traits, and overall genetic makeup so we can make informed, responsible breeding decisions. While DNA and genetic testing is a valuable tool, it is important to understand that no genetic testing can guarantee 100% prevention of all health conditions. Genetics, environment, and development all play a role in a dog’s overall health. We believe in transparency, education, and responsible breeding practices to give our puppies the very best start in life.

What we provide

When you bring home a puppy from Sugarcoat Yorkies, you’re not just adopting a puppyβ€”you’re joining our extended family.

Each puppy goes home with:

  • Lifelong breeder support β€” we are always available for questions, guidance, and continued communication throughout your puppy’s life

  • CKC or AKC registration (as applicable)

  • Age-appropriate vaccinations and dewormings

  • Complete veterinary records for your files and future care

  • A starter supply of the food your puppy is currently eating to help ensure a smooth transition

We believe ongoing support, transparency, and preparation are just as important as raising healthy puppies. Our goal is to set both our puppies and their families up for long-term success.
